How to Download Full Game CDs to a Hardrive on the Xbox 360

The Xbox 360 allows users to install game discs to the system's hard drive. Installing a game in this manner allows the game to run directly from the hard drive, and can extend the life of the system's disc drive. It is still necessary to insert the game disc into the disc drive to play an installed game because the system does a disc check to help combat piracy. This disc check is the only time the disc drive will spin when playing a game directly from the hard drive.

     Insert the game disc you want to install into the disc tray and close it.

     Highlight the game in the "My Xbox" section of the Xbox dashboard and press "Y" on your game controller.

     Highlight "Install to Hard Drive" and press "A" on the game controller.

     Wait until the onscreen progress indicator has moved to completion before powering down your console or removing the game disc. Once this indicator shows completion, the game has been installed to the hard drive.
