How to Unlock an Xbox HD

Microsoft's Xbox 360 has a hard drive for storing game data, downloads and media. The drive is removable, should it ever need to be repaired or upgraded. The process of unlocking the hard drive from the console is fairly simple, thanks to easy release switches. Make sure the unit is powered off and the hard drive is handled carefully to avoid damage to the Xbox and your data.

      Power off the device, unplug the AC adapter and remove any other cables and connections.

      Place the console horizontally, lying flat, on a hard surface, such as table.

      Locate the hard drive cover release on the right side of the Xbox console, toward the back of the unit. Slide the release forward and pull the hard drive cover away from the console to remove it.

      Pull on the tab to remove the hard drive. Carefully slide the hard drive out of the console to unlock it from the system.
