Instructions
Sign up for a Bungie account and link your XBox gamertag to your account.
Download canvas maps from Bungie. These will be sent to your XBox360.
Open Halo 3 and enter the Forge from the main menu screen.
Choose one of the canvas maps to customize. Any map is adequate for learning the basics of Forge.
Press "X" on the pre-game screen to edit game properties, such as player speed.
Press "A" to start the Forge session.
Press "UP" on your controller's D-Pad to switch to and from editor mode.
Learn the navigation controls for editor mode, which are as follows:
Left Joystick: fly around
Right Joystick: look around (press to zoom)
Right Bumper: moves editor character directly up
Left Bumper: moves editor character directly down
Hold Left Trigger: thrusts forward, with Left Joystick (very fast)
Access the Start Menu options, which are as follows:
new round - all objects will respawn and score will be reset
change types - switch to opposing team
end game - finished current game
change game type - select from slayer (default), assault, capture the flag, infection, juggernaut, king of the hill, oddball, territories and VIP
save map - saves map to hard-drive
save changes - saves latest updates to map
Choose "Change Game Type" and select a game type. This will allow access to the particular objects necessary for that game, such as flags for capture the flag. You will then be returned to game mode.
Press "X" to pull up object categories. Navigate through these categories with the Left and Right Bumpers, and choose a category that interests you. Select objects from within that category to include on your map. Note that there will only be objects with in the "Goals" category if you have selected a game type that includes goals.
Press "A" to create the object. You can move the object by using the joysticks. When you are ready to place the object on the map, press "A" again. You can also pick up resting objects by pressing "A." Pick up a stationary object for practice.
Rotate this object by holding the Right Trigger and using the joysticks. The Left Joystick and Right Joystick will rotate the object in opposite directions. After practicing, place the object back down by pressing "A."
Edit the object values by first hovering over an objecting and pressing "X." Options available for editing will appear on the lower left corner of your screen. Once you have finished, press "B." You may also press "X" to edit object values while you are holding an item.
Delete an object by pressing "Y" either while you are holding it or while the cursor is hovering over it.
Practice with all of the controls until you are comfortable spawning, rotating, placing and editing objects.
Save your map by accessing the Start Menu.
