How to Install a Case Fan on an Xbox 360

The Xbox 360 is one of the hottest video game consoles on the market today. Although popular and successful, the console's construction leaves plenty of room for improvements. Specifically, it often displays problems of poor circulation within the console's case itself. You can install a case fan to help keep the console's unit cool. This modification will not void your Xbox 360's warranty.

Things You'll Need

  • 120mm Case fan
  • USB Cable
  • Electrician's tape
  • Phillips head screwdriver
  • Wire stripper

Instructions

    • 1

Strip 1/2 inch of insulation off the fan's black and red wires. Cut the non-USB end of the USB cable off. Strip about 2 inches of the casting off the USB cable and then strip about 1/2 inch of insulation from the red and black wires within the USB cable.

    • 2

Twist the red fan and USB cable wires together and tape the connection with electrician's tape. Make sure that you cover any exposed wire with the tape.

    • 3

Twist the black wires together from the fan and the USB cable, and tape the connection with the electrician's tape. Once again, be sure to cover any exposed wire with the tape.

    • 4

Tape the red and black wires together in order to secure the wires. Connect the USB cable to the Xbox 360's front USB port. The fan will come on.

    • 5

Tape the top and the bottom of the fan to the rear of the Xbox 360 case. Make sure that the fan sits where the vent is located in order to cool the internal parts of your console. Now your console has two fans to keep it cool.
