How to Format the 20GB HDD Xbox 360

Although the Xbox 360 is limited to 512MB of internal memory, additional storage devices such as hard drives, memory cards and USB drives can be used to increase its capacity. The 20GB hard drive can be used to store game data, downloaded content and music. Formatting the drive will erase all of the content on the drive immediately, and the process is irreversible.

Instructions

    • 1

      Turn on the Xbox 360.

    • 2

Select the "My Xbox" tab, then "System Settings."

    • 3

Choose "Memory." Highlight the 20GB hard drive. Select "Format." When asked if you want to confirm the deletion, click "Yes." You may be asked to enter the Xbox serial number. The serial number is located on the back of the Xbox below the Ethernet port. Enter the serial number and choose "Done."
