How to Install PS3 Thumbsticks in an Xbox 360 Controller

Microsoft makes Xbox 360 controllers with concave-top thumbsticks. Sony's Playstation 3 controllers have convex-top thumbsticks. If you are an Xbox 360 gamer who prefers the feel of the PS3 thumbstick, you can modify your Xbox 360 controller by replacing the Xbox 360 thumbsticks with PS3 thumbsticks.

Instructions

    • 1

      Turn the controller upside down.

    • 2

Remove the battery pack from the controller and set aside.

    • 3

Unscrew and remove all six of the visible screws on the back of the controller with the T8 Torx security driver.

    • 4

Remove the bar code strip from the controller's battery slot. Remove the seventh and final screw from the battery slot with the T8 Torx security driver.

    • 5

Push in on the thumbsticks, with the controller still upside down, to separate the two controller halves.

    • 6

Set aside the controller half that houses the buttons and d-pad, keeping it in the upside-down position so that the buttons will not fall out.

    • 7

Invert the bottom half of the controller so it is now right side up. You will see both of the thumbsticks.

    • 8

Remove both thumbsticks by pulling straight up on them. This might take a little bit of force.

    • 9

Install the PS3 thumbsticks by pushing them down into the places from which you removed the old thumbsticks.

    • 10

Repeat Steps 1 through 7 in reverse order, beginning with Step 7, to put the controller back together.
