Recalibrate your Xbox controller if your Media Center program has frozen. Slowly spin the analog sticks on the Xbox controller in a complete circle. Sometimes the volume control in Media Center can get stuck, and the analog sticks control volume. This step could reset the volume and unfreeze the program.
Push the right analog stick on the controller upward if you are having trouble hearing media files. This will raise the volume. If that does not fix the problem, perform the same process on the second controller.
Press the back button on the controller if your music visualizations are not changing. This should unlock the visuals and cause them to fluctuate.
Check the files you are trying to play to see if they are encrypted. Files from iTunes, MSN Music and other music-selling sites encrypt their files with Digital Right Management. As a result, files from these sites are not compatible with Xbox Media Center.
Push both analog sticks into the controller--like pressing a button--to bring up the menu. Reset your settings if the program is locking or the display is going black on a regular basis.
Check the size of your file. Xbox Media Center can't play DVD files larger than 1 GB and cannot play files larger than 4 GB off of the Xbox hard drive.
Reinstall Xbox Media Center if it is still not working properly. The program might be corrupted and require replacement.
