How to Change a XBox 360 DVD Drive

Microsoft's XBox 360 game console comes loaded with a lot of features and capabilities. One of the most widely used features is the ability to play DVD movies on the XBox 360. Microsoft uses DVD drives from several different companies, but all of them are wired into the system the same way. If your DVD drive should become damaged it is not difficult to find a replacement part and change it out yourself.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug all the power sources to the Xbox 360. You will want to unplug the system from your television and from the wall outlet. Remove the plugs and power sources from the system itself.

    • 2

Lay the system on a flat surface such as a kitchen table or workbench. You will need to place a towel down first, so that the table does not scratch the lens of the DVD drives.

    • 3

Grip the faceplate of your XBox 360 firmly in your hand and remove it from the core of the system. Pull back on the right side of the plate to remove it.

    • 4

Remove the outer shell and the plastic casing. Do this by lifting up on the plastic hinges attached to the outer shell of the Xbox console.

    • 5

Remove the interior metal casing. You will need to use a size 7 Torx screwdriver to remove the screws and the casing.

    • 6

Unplug the power cables and the SATA cables from the back of the DVD drive. Remove the old DVD drive out of the machine.

    • 7

Place the new DVD drive into the machine and attach the SATA cables and power cables to the drive.

    • 8

Replace the metal cover and screw it back down in place. Replace the plastic case, the outer shell, and finally the faceplate.

    • 9

Hook the XBox 360 up to the television and plug it back into the wall. Turn the system on and allow the menu to load up before playing any DVDs through the system.
