Tips & Tricks for Xbox

Created by Microsoft, the Xbox is a gaming console that was released in the United States in 2001 and quickly became one of the best-selling consoles on the market. IGN ranked the Xbox as the 11th-best console of all time. In 2005, Microsoft released the Xbox 360, which innovated the gaming industry with its wireless controllers and Internet gameplay. You can enhance your experience with your Xbox by exercising several tips and tricks.
  1. Buy Xbox Games Cheaply

    • Some video games are so addicting that you cannot stop playing until you have beaten the game. Once finished, you're ready to move on to the next game. The only problem is that video games can be expensive. If you are on a tight budget but want to increase your video game library, you can achieve this by buying used games for the original Xbox. A feature of the Xbox 360 is that you can play games from the original system on newer models. Old games can be purchased online, at video rental stores and at boutiques in most malls. While these games are older, the graphics for many of them still stand out.

    Xbox Live

    • Xbox Live can enhance your gaming experience by allowing you to connect online and chat with or play against others. You can compete with strangers around the world or with your friends. If you are a sports fan and need the most up-to-date roster to enjoy your sports games, you are in luck. With Xbox Live, you can download updated rosters. One downside about Xbox Live is that, unlike other systems, you cannot automatically use your own wireless internet to connect. Instead, you have to first pay for a membership to the service. A wireless router does not come built in to the system. You can either purchase an Xbox router or can connect to the Internet with an Ethernet cord.

    Red Ring of Death

    • Many Xbox 360s receive a system error known as the "Red Ring of Death." The error occurs because of a soldering issue and prevents users from playing any games. If you receive this error, you should immediately contact Microsoft and exercise your warranty. If your warranty has expired, there is a method you can perform at home that will temporarily fix the problem. It is known as the "towel trick."

Turn your Xbox on and wrap it in several towels. Leave the system on for at least 10 minutes. Once it is hot, remove the towels and insert a game disc. The red ring should be temporarily gone, allowing you to play games once again. Since you are dealing with heat, exercise caution while using this method.
