How to Use a PAL on an Xbox in the US

PAL (Phase Altering Lines) is a broadcast format used primarily in Europe, Asia and Australia. NTSC (National Television Standards Committee) is the format used in the U.S. Visually, there are no visible differences to the viewer; however, DVDs and Xbox games that are in PAL format will not work on a TV that is in NTSC. With the aid of Enigmah, a program designed specifically to convert PAL Xbox games to NTSC, users can now play their PAL games in the U.S.

Instructions

    • 1

Download Enigmah for free (see Resources). Unzip the downloaded folder to a new folder on your desktop.

    • 2

Burn a DVD of the file "video_select_v2.iso". Make sure you select the "Load from Disc Image" or "Create new Image" option depending on the burning software you use. Press "OK," then "Burn."

    • 3

Insert the DVD into your Xbox and launch the Enigmah Video Switcher utility.

    • 4

Hit the "A" button on your Xbox remote to switch the format to PAL or "B" to switch back to NTSC.

    • 5

Reboot your Xbox and insert the PAL disc. It will now properly load.
