How to Get Rid of 3 Red Lights on Xbox 360

Many Xbox 360 owners have encountered what is known among the video game community as the "red rings of death." If your system is still covered by the warranty, sending it back to the company for repair is the best option. However, if your Xbox 360 is no longer under warranty, there is a temporary fix that can be done several times and can allow you to get several hours of gameplay out of your system each time.

Instructions

Unplug all the cords from your Xbox 360 console other than the gray power cord. Turn on your system for about five minutes to allow it to warm up.

    • 2

Wrap your Xbox 360 console with three towels while the system is still on. Use each towel to completely cover the console one at a time. Ensure that the console is wrapped completely so that no air can get in or out of the towels. Nothing should be sticking out from the console other than the power cord.

Leave the console wrapped inside the towels for 20 minutes. Remove the towels from your system and reinsert all necessary cords back into the rear of the console. Reset the system by pressing and holding the green "Power" button until the green light turns off. Press the same button to turn the system back on.
