You must have the proper tools to connect to Xbox Live. To chat, you must have a microphone headset that plugs into your controller. You can also attach a keyboard to type messages back and forth. If you do not have a headset, people can talk to you and it will come through your TV speakers.
Considerations
To use Xbox chat, you must be connected to the Internet. You will need to hardwire your Xbox to the modem and router if you do not have the wireless adapter. The newer versions of Xbox have internal Wi-Fi connections that you must set up to connect to your home Internet network.
Prevention/Solution
Sign up for an Xbox Live account before attempting to chat. You must have an active Xbox Live account to use when chatting. If you have an expired account, your chat will not work. Xbox Live can be purchased for one or three months.
