How to Put Back the Original Firmware for BenQ

Xbox 360 consoles are manufactured by Microsoft Corp. and distributed with internal DVD drives that play movies and games. These DVD drives are made by a number of companies, including Samsung, Hitachi and BenQ. You can use your computer and freeware Xbox 360 modding software from the Internet to restore the original BIN firmware on your BenQ DVD drive if you have previously "flashed" modified firmware. Flashing the original BIN firmware to your Xbox 360 BenQ DVD drive will take about 15 minutes.

Things You'll Need

  • Xbox 360
  • SATA cable
  • Torx screwdriver (size 7)
  • BIN firmware program (JungleFlasher)

Unplug all video and power cables from the console, then remove the front faceplate. Unclasp the plastic tabs on the front of the machine then remove the outer plastic casing. Unscrew the Torx screws on the metal interior casing and lift open the metal cover on the console. Unplug the SATA cable from the Xbox 360 to the BenQ DVD drive, then plug in your SATA cable from your computer to the BenQ DVD drive. Turn on your computer.

Open a web browser and download the freeware Xbox 360 flashing program JungleFlasher from the link in the References section. As of October 2010, JungleFlasher is the most updated and stable Xbox 360 flashing program available. JungleFlasher is the only program capable of running in Windows (earlier programs required the use of MS-DOS interface which was prone to crashing). Run JungleFlasher and click "Restore Original Firmware to DVD Drive" in the program's main menu. Select your Xbox 360 BenQ DVD drive and click "OK." JungleFlasher will begin flashing the original firmware back to the BenQ DVD drive.

Wait for the flashing to finish, then close the program and shut down the computer. Disconnect the SATA cable from the computer to the BenQ DVD drive, then plug in the SATA cable from the Xbox 360 to the BenQ DVD drive. Close the metal cover on the console and rescrew the Torx screws. Replace the plastic case on the machine and return the front faceplate to its original position. Reconnect all video and power cables before turning the console on again.
