How to Use an Xbox Microphone

Xbox 360 consoles are capable of using microphone headsets that allow gamers to communicate with each other when playing online Xbox Live games. You can also use the headset microphone to send voice messages to Xbox Live friends. The headset plugs directly in to the Xbox 360 controller and is detected automatically by the console. Connecting your Xbox 360 microphone for use with the console will take about five minutes to complete.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn on your Xbox 360 console. Wait for the main menu or "Dashboard" to load fully before continuing. Turn on your Xbox 360 controller by pressing and holding the center "Xbox Guide" button until a green LED is displayed.

    • 2

Turn the volume on the headset down by turning the volume wheel on the headset cord. Take the 2.5-mm audio jack and plug it in to the bottom of the controller. The headset will then be activated and ready for use in game sessions and voice recording.

    • 3

Adjust the headset on your head until the earpiece fits snugly over your ear and the microphone rests about 1 inch away from your mouth (this prevents heavy breathing noises from being transmitted). You can mute your microphone at any time by pressing the "mute" button next to the volume wheel. The headset will automatically transmit your voice during game sessions once it is plugged in to the Xbox 360 controller.
