Microsoft's Xbox 360 console has the best online gaming community, called Xbox Live, based on sales of over $1 billion in 2009. Reasons for this include having exclusive titles that have been huge multiplayer successes, such as Halo. You can connect to Xbox Live via the Internet, through a home network. One way is wirelessly which requires a wireless adapter for the Xbox 360 and a wireless router that is compatible with the Xbox 360.

- The brands of routers that have earned official compatibility ratings from Xbox Live are ZyXEL, Netgear, Linksys, D-Link and Microsoft. Not all models of wireless routers from these brands are compatible, thus a further breakdown of models is necessary.

- Find the model number of a router in question. MN-100, MN-500, MN-700 models from Microsoft are compatible as well as 10 models from D-Link, five models from Linksys, five models from Netgear and two models from ZyXEL.
