Car Games for the XBox 360

The Microsoft Xbox 360 is one of three major gaming consoles on the market as of 2010. This powerful game platform supports hundreds of games including many games with cars as the focus; genres include racing games, car combat games, other driving games and hybrids of the various types.
  1. Forza Motorsport 3

    • Many different racing games for the Xbox 360 are available as of 2010, a standout being "Forza Motorsport 3" -- a highly rated game given good reviews by many industry sources such as GameSpot. This game features a huge array of cars and an almost infinite variety of customization combinations. You can customize paint, tuning, graphics, tires and more. A large number of tracks and events provide for good game-play variety, and car choice influences available events, giving you good replay options. This game also allows you to put new cars to use right away, unlike some games that restrict available events until other requirements or conditions are met. Graphics and car models are outstanding, and the controls are realistic. Driving assists are available to make the game easier to play for those seeking a more arcade-like experience.

    Full Auto

    • Car combat games combine racing elements with a focus on car-to-car combat; many of these games are violent as the cars often are outfitted with various weapons like machine guns and rocket launchers. "Full Auto" from Sega offers a choice of 20 different cars and 10 different weapons. This game gets generally decent reviews from sites like GameSpot, but the limited assortment of cars and weapons can induce boredom fairly quickly for those who enjoy variety. You race and fight at the same time; cars have a forward-mounted weapon, usually some type of projectile weapon, and some type of rear-mounted dropped weapon like mines. Graphics are nice, and game-play mechanics are geared more to an arcade-type experience rather than a simulation, which allows you to devote attention to fighting as well. Races usually include at least one secondary goal, but finishing first is always the primary goal. This sometimes makes for a contradiction -- your best weapon is usually mounted facing forward, but you must be behind someone to use it.

    Wheelman

    • Driving games for the Xbox 360 often revolve around mission-based gaming. Players use their driving skills to perform tasks and complete missions to advance a story. "Wheelman" is one such game; it offers luscious graphics and blockbuster movie-type action and cut scenes. Based on the movie of the same name, you play Milo Burik as you attempt to infiltrate criminal gangs in Barcelona, Spain. Missions have good variety in game play and objectives. Driving missions are much better than on-foot missions, which suffer from poor mechanics and game play, according to game sites such as IGN.
