How to Upgrade the Memory in My Xbox

The Xbox 360 relies on a detachable hard drive as its main memory storage source. Microsoft has developed several different hard drives over the years, ranging in size from 20 to 250 gigabytes. If you have one of the smaller models, you have likely experienced some memory shortages, especially if you have downloaded music or saved large games. Fortunately, Microsoft allows Xbox 360 owners to upgrade memory by purchasing and installing a new hard drive.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase a larger Xbox 360 hard drive.

    • 2

      Power off the Xbox 360.

    • 3

Disconnect the old hard drive by pressing the eject button, which is located on the slender, ventilated end of the hard drive (if the console is sitting horizontally, the hard drive will be on the left).

    • 4

Grab the protruding, rounded end of the old hard drive, and pull it away from the console. This completely disengages the hard drive from the Xbox 360.

    • 5

Position the upgraded hard drive above the now empty bay.

    • 6

Push the rounded larger end down, then press the skinnier, ventilated end down, until the hard drive locks into place.
