How to Download Firmware to a New XBox 360 DVD Drive

The Xbox 360 gaming console allows users to play video games, watch DVDs and play media such as music and videos on their televisions. Microsoft periodically releases updates to the console software and firmware of Xbox 360 devices, such as the DVD drive, to correct errors or introduce a new technology to the system. If you have Xbox Live, these updates will be automatically downloaded and installed for you. However, if you do not use Xbox Live, you can download the latest updates from Microsoft's website and then manually install them on your system.

Insert the blank DVD into your computer's DVD drive. Double-click "Computer," which is located on the "Start" menu. Double-click the DVD drive to open the writable DVD folder.

Copy the contents in the compressed folder that was downloaded to the DVD drive folder, then click "Burn" or "Write these files to disc" to burn the files to the DVD.

    • 5

Insert the newly burned disc into your Xbox 360, then restart the console.
