How to Fix the Tilt Sensor on Rock Band for the 360

Released for the Xbox 360 in 2007, "Rock Band" drops the player into the shoes of a godlike rock star. The popular music-simulation game includes an "Overdrive" feature that becomes available when the guitarist plays certain sections of each song without error. Players trigger "Overdrive" by tilting the guitar upward, thereby activating a small tilt sensor within the guitar body. Unfortunately, some tilt sensors stop working after prolonged usage. One clever gamer discovered a quick fix that doesn't require any soldering or advanced technical knowledge.

Instructions

    • 1

Disconnect your guitar from the Xbox 360, if applicable. If you own a wireless guitar, remove the battery cover on the back of the guitar and take out the batteries.

    • 2

Place the guitar on a flat working surface. Untwist the upper strap knob and remove all screws visible on the back panel of the guitar. Place the screws in an upturned lid or small cup to avoid loss.

    • 3

Pull the back panel of the guitar away from the forward panel. Do not pull too hard, as doing so will loosen the wired connections between the panels.

    • 4

Remove both screws holding the tilt sensor in place, which is located in the central region of the guitar. The tilt sensor is approximately 1 1/2 inches long running along the length of the guitar.

    • 5

Pull the sensor away from the plastic notches holding it in place. Flip the sensor upside down with a 180-degree lengthwise rotation.

    • 6

Position the sensor between the plastic notches and replace both screws.

    • 7

Replace the back panel on the forward panel, as well as the screws. Twist the upper strap knob back into place.

    • 8

Restore power to your instrument by plugging it back into the console or by replacing the batteries and battery cover.
