How to Sync a Universal Xbox 360 Remote

Xbox 360 owners interested in integrating their entire home theater have the option of controlling TV, Xbox 360 and Media Center operations with the Xbox 360 Universal Media Remote. Through the infrared port on the front of the console, the remote allows control of all media and game access functions on the Xbox 360 without the need of any synchronization, including any connected Windows Media Center PCs. However, to control one of the many different television models supported by the remote, you must complete synchronization setup.

Instructions

Syncing a TV Manually

  Turn on your television set and point the Xbox 360 Universal Media Remote toward the front of the set.

  Press both the "OK" and "TV" buttons on the remote and hold them for two seconds. When performed correctly, all buttons on the remote will briefly illuminate, followed by only the number buttons remaining lit.

  Press the number buttons on the remote to enter the correct code for your television model. A list of numbers can be located on the Xbox Support website.

  Press the "TV" button on the remote to confirm and enter the TV code. The buttons on the remote will flash three times to indicate that the code has been confirmed.
Scanning for TV Codes

  Turn on your television set, and point the Xbox 360 Universal Media Remote toward the front of the TV.

  Press the "TV" and "OK" buttons together, holding them for two seconds. When performed correctly, all buttons on the remote will briefly illuminate, followed by only the number buttons remaining lit.

  Press either the "CH+" or "CH-" button on the remote to scan for codes compatible with your television set. Keep pressing either button to scroll through codes until your television turns off. Once your television set powers off, press the "TV" button on the remote to save the code. All of the buttons on the remote will flash three times to confirm code entry.
