Check AA Batteries
Take off the controller battery pack and remove the AA batteries.
Test the AA batteries in another device to verify that they have a charge and are working properly.
Replace the batteries if they are dead and reattach the battery pack to the controller.
Attempt to connect the controller to the system by first pressing the guide button on the controller, and then pressing the synchronize buttons located on both the controller and the console.
Check Rechargeable Battery Pack
Plug the charge cable for the rechargeable battery pack into the controller and then connect the cable to one of the USB ports on the Xbox 360 console.
Look at the light on the charge cable. A green light indicates that the rechargeable battery pack is fully charged while a red light indicates that the controller is not fully charged.
Charge the battery pack until the light on the charge cable is green. If the light on the charge cable is off, or remains red even after hours of charging, remove the battery pack and check the gold plated contacts. If the contacts look dirty or oxidized, clean them with a Q-Tip and some rubbing alcohol.
Reattach the rechargeable battery back and try to give it a full charge using the charge cable.
Attempt to connect the controller to the system when the battery pack is fully charged. First press the guide button on the controller, and then press the synchronize buttons located on both the controller and the system.
Check for Interfering Signals
Turn off your wireless controller.
Turn off your TV to ensure that the signal from the television is not interfering with the signal from the wireless controller.
Press the guide button on your wireless controller to turn on both the controller and the Xbox 360 console.
Attempt to connect the controller to the system by pressing the synchronize buttons located on both the controller and the system.
