Updated List of XBox 360 Compatible Original XBox Games

Owners of the Xbox 360 and Xbox consoles were happy to hear Microsoft announce that it would support original Xbox games with backward compatibility on the Xbox 360 system. After the original announcement, the list of compatible games had been updated and expanded -- until November 2007. After that, Xbox.com announced that the list would no longer be updated because newer systems allowed users to play the games without any special software. To play original games on your Xbox 360, you will need to first download an update. After that, though, a good number of high-selling original Xbox games have been included on the backward-compatible list.
  1. Sports Games

    • Sports games are one of the most-played genres of video games, and thankfully there are a good number of leading titles from Xbox that are compatible with Xbox 360. Games from leading developer EA Sports include FIFA Soccer 2007, FIFA Street 2, NBA Street v2, NCAA March Madness 2006, NCAA Football 2006 and NHL 2005. However, the Madden line of games has been omitted. Other well-known sports games include All Star Baseball 2005, ESPN NFL 2K5 and World Soccer Winning Eleven 9. Other compatible games include extreme sports titles from both the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater and Tony Hawk's Underground series, as well as Amped 2, Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX 2 and SSX 3.

    Shooters

    • Action and adventure shooters are one of Xbox's most-favored genres on the list of backward compatibility. Launch title Halo and hugely successful games such as the Grand Theft Auto series, Halo 2, Half Life 2 and the Tom Clancy series are all supported. Call of Duty 3, Max Payne and Red Dead Revolver are some other supported games that are played often.

    Role-Playing Games

    • Role-playing games, though more often played on other consoles, are still strongly supported on Xbox 360 through backward compatibility. Popular titles are the Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, Fable, Jade Empire and Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic 1 and 2.

    Fighting Games

    • Another genre that is supported well by Microsoft in its most recent list is the fighter genre. Dead or Alive 3 and Ultimate, Marvel vs. Capcom 2, Mortal Kombat: Deception and Street Fighter Anniversary Collection are some of the highest-selling supported games.

    Other Popular Games

    • There are plenty of other games to choose from as well, spreading across a variety of genres. Adventure games such as Crash Bandicoot 5 and the Legend of Spyro have made the list, while original launch title and flying game Crimson Skies is still available. Party games such as Pac-Man World 3, Fuzion Frenzy and Namco Museum 50th Anniversary Arcade Collection are all compatible.
