How to Program an Xbox Remote

The Xbox 360 Universal Media Remote allows users to access their movies, music and photos stored on the console. It also has the ability to control your television, so there is no need to use multiple remotes for different devices. Before using the Universal Media Remote with your television, it must be programmed to work with that particular model. To do so, a TV code must be scanned for or entered manually. There are two ways to accomplish programming a TV code into the remote.

Instructions

  1. Scan for a Code

    • 1

Turn on the television. Hold down the "TV" and "OK" buttons at the same time on the Remote for two seconds while pointing the remote at the television.

    • 2

Hit the "CH/PG" button on the remote. Continue pressing the button until the television turns off. When the television turns off, this confirms that its TV code has been found.

    • 3

Press the "TV" button. The remote's lights blink three times to indicate that the code was saved.

Look for and Enter a Code

    • 4

Go to the Xbox website and click "Support." On the left side of the page, click "Hardware," then "Accessories." Choose "Media," then "Universal Remote." Click "TV Codes for the Universal Remote."

    • 5

Locate your television's brand on the list. Copy down the number or numbers listed for your television.

    • 6

Turn on the television. Press the remote's "TV" and "OK" buttons simultaneously.

    • 7

Use the numeric pad on the remote to enter one of the codes.

    • 8

Press the "CH/PG" button. If the television turns off, this is the correct code. If it does not turn off, the code is not correct. Continue entering codes and pressing this button until the television turns off.
