How to Cool an Xbox

The Xbox 360 suffers from a number of issues stemming from its inability to properly cool, most notably the dreaded "Red Ring of Death." To keep your Xbox in working order, there are a few things you can do to keep it cool and functional.

  Keep your Xbox somewhere open and well ventilated, not somewhere enclosed such as a cabinet, bookcase or desk.

  Make sure your Xbox is situated where none of its ventilation ducts are blocked. Most notably, avoid placing it on rugs, pillows, beds or sofas.

  Place the Xbox on its side so a greater amount of its surface area is facing the air.

  Avoid placing your Xbox near a heater or any other significant source of heat. Consider placing a small fan near it.

  Treat the Xbox's power box with the same cooling tips as the Xbox itself. If the power box gets too hot, the flow of electricity can be disrupted. It needs an open, well-ventilated area.
