How to Use a 360 Case Tool

Microsoft Xbox 360 consoles utilize a unique case to hold the console's motherboard and disc drive. The case requires a precise metal tool to put pressure on interlocking tabs that can be released to open the console. There is a tool available on the Internet that can open your Xbox 360 without the use of paperclips or other make-shift tools. The Xbox 360 Case Tool can open your console in about 15 minutes.

Unplug all cables and accessories from the console. Remove the plastic faceplate from the front of the machine by pulling it firmly outward. Push the rubber feet off the console using the long end of the 360 case tool and slide the end into the holes. Pry the gray plastic sides of the console off.

Use the long side of the 360 case tool that use several "teeth" or ridges to open the rear of the console. You can insert the long side of the tool so the ridges line up along the rear of the console and fit exactly in to the plastic tabs on the back of the 360. Pry open the tabs and the clam-shell plastic case will pop off the Xbox 360.
