How to Upgrade Xbox 360 Arcade

The Xbox 360 Arcade console is the most basic Xbox 360 package, containing the console and a wireless controller. While this is enough to play most games, a few upgrades to the console can make the experience more enjoyable and open up new possibilities. The simplest but most noticeable system upgrades are installing a hard drive, adding wireless connectivity and getting a high-definition quality picture if your television is HD compatible.

Instructions

  1. Hard Drive

    • 1

Turn the console off and find the hard drive bay. Depending on your console's orientation, this will be on the top or left side.

    • 2

Press the button positioned toward the front of the console on the edge of the bay and lift the cover out.

    • 3

Place the back of the replacement hard drive against the rear of the hard drive bay and press the front end down so that it clicks into the console.

    Wireless Networking Adapter

    • 4

Clip the plastic tabs on the back of the Xbox 360 wireless networking adapter into the corresponding slots on the back of the console. These are located toward the top or left hand side depending on your console's orientation.

    • 5

Connect the USB cable into the USB port below the adapter slots and fold out the antennae.

    • 6

Turn on your Xbox 360 and navigate to the "My Xbox" menu. Select "System Settings" followed by "Network Settings" and "Configure Network." Choose the "Basic Settings" tab and select "Wireless Mode" then "Scan for Networks." Select your wireless network from the list.

    HDMI Cable

    • 7

Turn off your console and remove any cables that are attached between your television and Xbox 360.

    • 8

Locate the HDMI port on your television and Xbox 360 console. It is on the back of your console, just below the standard AV socket. Connect the HDMI cable between your television and console using these ports.

    • 9

Turn on your console and navigate to your system settings under "My Xbox" and select the high definition video setting that is appropriate for your television.
