How to Plug an Xbox 360 Into a Computer Monitor

Like other home video game consoles, Microsoft's Xbox 360 system is traditionally used with a standard television set. Some gamers, however, prefer the enhanced resolution and compact size of computer monitors compared to many television sets. To accommodate these gamers, Microsoft designed the Xbox 360 to be able to connect to computer monitors in addition to traditional televisions. To connect the system to a computer monitor, gamers need to purchase a VGA cable and properly install it.

Instructions

    • 1

Plug the AV connector side of the VGA cable into the back of the Xbox 360. The AV connector side is the side with the largest connector and the phrase "AV" on it.

    • 2

Insert the VGA connector side of the VGA cable into any VGA slot on the computer monitor. The VGA connector side is smaller than the AV connector side and is marked with the phrase "VGA."

    • 3

Connect the red and white audio sides of the VGA cable to the appropriate sound device, which will be either the monitor itself (if it has internal speakers) or an external speaker system.

    • 4

Turn on the Xbox 360 to confirm that it is properly connected to the computer monitor. The Xbox 360 will automatically detect that it is connected to a computer monitor, but you can further customize the display options in the "Display" option of the Xbox 360's system menu.
