How to Create a Normal Headset Adapter for an Xbox 360

One of the features of Microsoft's Xbox 360 is Xbox Live, an online gaming and socialization interface with varying levels of subscription. The ability to communicate with other gamers via headset is an important component of this service. To encourage users to buy proprietary headsets, Microsoft designed the headset ports located on Xbox 360 controllers for 2.5 mm plugs. Fortunately, you can make an adapter that will allow for the use of more common 3.5 mm headsets.

Things You'll Need

    • 2

Insert the 3.5 mm headset plug into the 3.5 mm port of your 3.5mm-to-2.5 mm adapter. Push the plug into the port until you hear a click.

    • 3

Insert the 2.5 mm adapter plug into the 2.5 mm port on your Xbox controller. Push the plug into the port until you hear a click.

    • 4

Turn on your Xbox 360 and log on to Xbox Live.

    • 5

Test your new headset and adapter by selecting one of your friends from your "Friends List." Create a short audio message and play it back to ensure that your headset's microphone and headphones are working. Delete the message when you are finished with the test.
