How do I Connect Up an XBox to a Vista Computer Using a Webstar Modem?

The Xbox 360 comes fully equipped with the ability to share media with your Windows Vista computer. Setting up your home network to allow this exchange of information is a quick task that requires only a few tweaks on your PC and Xbox. The process is identical no matter which model of Webstar modem you have in your home.

Instructions

Ensure that your Webstar modem is hooked up to either a wireless or wired router. Webstar does not currently make a modem with a built-in router, so you will not be able to connect your Xbox 360 with the modem alone.

Connect your Xbox 360 to your home network. If you have a wired network, you can simply run an Ethernet cable between your router and Xbox 360. If your connection is wireless, you will need a Microsoft Xbox 360 Wireless N Networking Adapter in order for your Xbox to see the network.

Power on your Xbox 360 and navigate to the "System" menu. Choose "Network Settings," then "Edit Settings." If you're on a wireless connection, select "Wireless Mode," choose your network connection and hit "Done." If you are on a wired connection, you can skip this step.

    • 4

Open Windows Media Player on your PC by clicking "Start," selecting "All Programs" and clicking "Windows Media Player."

    • 5

Right-click "Library" and select "Media Sharing." Windows Media Player 12 users can click "Stream" and then "Turn on Media Streaming."

    • 6

Click "Share My Media" and then hit "OK" to save changes. Allow Media Player to search for devices connected to your network---it should find your Xbox 360 in a few moments.

    • 7

Click "OK" when finished. Your media library is now available on your Xbox 360 console. You can view this content by navigating to the Xbox 360's music or movies library and selecting your computer as the source.
