How to Repair an Xbox 360 DVD ROM That Will Not Open

A stuck disk drive on an Xbox 360 can usually be fixed at home. Just like a computer, the Xbox 360̵7;s drive may become stuck or refuse to open for no reason at all. If that happens, restart the computer system. The drive may get loose on its own and no further repair effort will be necessary. If it remains stuck, there are some troubleshooting steps to try.

Drive Troubleshoot

  Push the disk tray eject button on front of the counsel.

  Pull the faceplate away from the counsel starting on side the controller ports are located.

  Push the eject button again. If the tray does not open remove the system from its power source.
Manually Opening Drive

  Straighten out the paperclip.

  Push the paperclip into the hole on the right side of the drive until resistance is met. Push against the resistance carefully until the drive opens slightly.

  Repeat the step on the left side of the drive.

  Pull the disk tray open the rest of the way with your fingers.

  Reconnect the power source and close the disk tray using the button. If the tray doesn̵7;t close skip to the next section.

  Reopen the disk tray. If the tray doesn̵7;t open continue to the next section.
Repairing Drive

  Remove all the screws under the faceplate and stickers on the back of counsel.

  Pull the top of the case away from the bottom. Check the gears for anything caught in them that could be blocking the disk tray.

  Reverse the steps to replace the shell. If nothing is caught in the gears, contact Xbox support.
