How to Pre-format a 120GB Hard Drive for an Xbox 360

The Xbox 360 is equipped with a hard drive to run the operating system and provide storage capabilities. You can replace the stock hard drive with a 120GB (gigabyte) model that will provide more storage, if you pre-format it in a PC first. This process will enable the hard drive to work with the Xbox 360, which saves you the cost of buying the more costly brand name pre-formatted 120GB hard drive that is sold by Microsoft. The procedure is performed on a PC and requires opening the computer to attach the hard drive. You will also need a hard-drive-partitioning program to alter the way the hard drive works when formatted. A number of hard-drive-partitioning programs are available for the PC. Some of the programs are free to use on a trial basis.
