How to Load Games Onto an Xbox 360 Hard Drive

Many early adopters of the Xbox 360 know the hardware problems facing Microsoft's video game console, such as the "three red rings" or "error 74" message. Consequently, gamers have tried several things in order to keep their Xbox 360 working, including keeping it in a cool, ventilated area or attempting self fixes. Another method, introduced in 2008, was loading games onto the hard drive. This removed wear and tear on the disc drive because the game could be run off the hard drive.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the Xbox 360 game disc into the console's tray and close it. This is the game that you will be loading onto the hard drive. The game may run depending on your Xbox 360's settings.

    • 2

Exit to the console's dashboard menu if the game runs.

    • 3

Go to "My Xbox." The game that's loaded in the disc tray will be displayed in this section. Do not open this section.

    • 4

Press Y on the controller to bring up an alternate game option menu.

    • 5

Scroll to "Install to hard drive" then push A to begin loading the game to the console's hard drive. This process can last several minutes, depending on the disc memory size.

    • 6

Push A after the progress bar indicator reads 100 percent.
