How to Transfer the Game Saves From XBox 360 From One Hard Drive to Another

If you upgrade your Xbox 360 or Xbox 360 hard drive, you may need to transfer your game saves from your old hard drive. According to Kotaku, unless you purchase the 120GB hard drive from Microsoft you need to purchase a hard drive transfer kit, which, as of July 2010, costs around $15.

      Turn the Xbox 360 off and unplug all head sets, memory cards and any other accessories. Take your old hard drive off the console by pressing the button on the side to release the hard drive.

      Turn the Xbox 360 back on and attach one of your controllers to the system.

      Attach the hard drive transfer cable to the port on your original Xbox 360 hard drive. The port is the small connector near one of the sides of the hard drive that connects to your Xbox 360. According to Microsoft, the cable will only connect one way and should be easy to attach to your hard drive.

      Attach the USB end of the transfer kit to your Xbox 360 and insert the disk that came with your kit. According to Engaget.com, use the USB plug in on the back of your Xbox 360, rather than one of the ones on the front.

      Follow the on-screen directions to transfer your data. According to Microsoft, the Xbox 360 transfer could take hours.
