Recover Gamertag
Press the guide button in the center of your Xbox 360 controller. Press the "X" button to sign out from Xbox Live.
Press the guide button again. Highlight "Recover Gamertag" and press the "A" button.
Highlight "Recover Gamertag" a second time and press the "A" button. Select "Yes" to log out from the current profile.
Press the "A" button at the "Gamertag" field to access a keyboard. Enter the gamertag you wish to recover and press the "Start" button. Highlight "Continue" and press the "A" button.
Enter the email address and password for your Windows Live ID at the appropriate fields. Highlight "Sign In" and press the "A" button.
Highlight "Accept" and press the "A" button to agree to the terms of use and begin the gamertag download.
External Storage Device
Connect your external storage device to your Xbox 360 using one of the console's USB ports.
Turn on your console and move to the "My Xbox" tab. Scroll to the far right and highlight the "System Settings" tab, then press the "A" button.
Highlight "Memory" and press the "A" button. Select the hard drive that holds the gamertag you wish to move and press the "A" button.
Select "Gamer Profiles," then highlight your gamertag and press the "A" button.
Highlight "Move" and press the "A" button. Choose the external storage device from the list of options and press the "A" button. Highlight "Confirm" and press the "A" button to move the gamertag.
Turn off your 360 console and remove the external storage device.
Place the storage device in the USB port of the console to which you wish to transfer the gamertag. Repeat Steps 1 to 6 to move the gamertag to the hard drive of the new console.
