How to Reset Memory on an Xbox 360

With the enormous amount of DLC (downloadable content) available on the Xbox Live Marketplace, it is easy to swamp your Xbox 360 memory with too much stuff. Game demos, trailers, videos, themes, and pictures are some of the content you can find in the marketplace. If your Xbox memory (be it a hard drive, memory unit or both) is full or nearly full, you may want to go into your Xbox settings and reformat (reset) it.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn on your Xbox 360 (and a controller), navigate to the "My Xbox" menu, and then select "System Settings."

    • 2

Click on "Memory." Select the storage device (hard drive or memory unit) from the list that you want to format, and then select "Device Options" by pressing the "Y" button on your controller.

    • 3

Choose "Format" from the list of device options, and then select "Yes" to confirm the operation. If prompted to enter your console's serial number, locate it on the back of the unit (or on the bottom-front underneath the USB port cover) and then enter it in the proper field. Press "Done" to begin the resetting process.
