Setup For Xbox 360 Pro and Arcade Models
Connect the 360's HD/AV cable to the AV port on the back of the 360. Set the switch on the AV port connector to HDTV if you have a high-definition television, or TV if your television is standard definition.
Choose which video output is best for your television, either component or composite. Both types of cables are included on the 360's HD-AV cable. If you want to use component video, plug the three component video cables into any of the three component video inputs on the back of the VSX-815. If you want to use composite video, plug the single yellow composite video cable into either the DVD/VCR or TV/SAT video inputs.
Connect the appropriate output cables. If you are using component video, you will need green (Y), red (Pr) and blue (Pb) cables to run from the component video monitor output port on the VSX-815 to the component video input on your television. For composite video, run a video cable from the monitor out port (located next to the TV/SAT input) to your television's video input. This completes the video setup.
Connect stereo sound by plugging the red and white RCA audio cables to the audio input that corresponds to the video input you chose. For example, if you chose the TV/SAT video input, you must also use the TV/SAT audio input. For surround sound, connect an optical cable to one of the two optical inputs on the VSX-815. These inputs correspond to the DVD/VCR and TV/SAT channels, so you must connect your video cables to one of those two channels.
HDMI Setup for Xbox 360 Elite
Connect an HDMI cable to the HDMI port on the back of the 360, and to an HDMI port on your television. This sends both audio and video signals to the television, but it is possible to use a different output to send an audio signal.
Attach the 360 AV adapter (not included with the console) to the AV port on the 360. This adapter offers both optical and stereo RCA outputs, and can be used in conjunction with an HDMI cable. (The standard HD AV connector cable cannot do this because it covers the HDMI port when plugged in.)
Choose which type of audio output you want to use, and follow the directions from Section 1, Step 4, to connect it to the VSX-815.
