Types
The initial hard drives for the Xbox 360 came with 20 gigabytes of storage capacity, but over the life of the console larger hard drives were produced. As of 2010, this peripheral could also be found in sizes of 60 gigabytes, 120 gigabytes and 250 gigabytes.
Function
Hard drives can store a variety of files, which can be accessed from the Xbox 360 Dashboard after turning on the console. The sub-categories of files include games, videos, music, gamer pictures, themes and various system items such as firmware updates for the Xbox 360.
Considerations
Players can upgrade their hard drives from a smaller to a larger size using a hard drive transfer kit. This kit includes a cord that plugs into the console and the destination hard drive and a transfer disc with the software needed to facilitate the process.
