How to Upgrade Xbox 360 Memory

With all of the game downloads, movie purchases and song storage available on a Microsoft Xbox 360 hard drive, it's no surprise that many players quickly find themselves running out of memory. Initially, the Xbox 360 came with a 20 GB hard drive, but hard drives more than 10 times that size are now available for the console. Fortunately, upgrading is a snap.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the console and leave the existing hard drive attached. Disconnect all other accessories from the Xbox 360. Grab a controller and hit the center "Guide" button to turn on both it and the console.

    • 2

Connect the transfer cable to the destination hard drive and the Xbox 360 console. The plug for the console will connect to any available USB port.

    • 3

Open the console's disc tray and insert the hard drive transfer disc. Once the system reads the disc you simply follow the on-screen instructions to complete the transfer. This can take a few hours if your hard drive contains a lot of content.
