How to Flash a Liteon XBox Drive

Microsoft Xbox 360 consoles use a DVD disc drive to run games. These DVD drives are made by Hitachi, Samsung and Liteon. All Xbox 360 DVD drives, including Liteon ones, can have their BIN files copied and edited or "flashed." To flash the Liteon DVD drive you will have to open the Xbox 360's case to establish a SATA data connection between your computer and the Liteon drive.

Things You'll Need

  • Xbox 360
  • Computer
  • BIN copy/edit program (JungleFlasher)
  • SATA cable
  • Torx screwdriver (size 7)

Instructions

    • 1
Use a Torx screwdriver to open the console.

Remove the outer casing of the Xbox 360 console and use the Torx screwdriver to remove the screws.

    • 2

Open the metal cover on the console and plug in the SATA cable from the motherboard to the Liteon DVD drive.

    • 3

Connect the SATA cable from your PC to the Liteon drive. This will allow you to send and receive data between your computer and the Xbox 360.

    • 4

Turn on your computer and login to your user account. Open your Web browser and download the free application JungleFlasher (see References). JungleFlasher will allow you to copy and edit BIN DVD drive files from the Xbox 360 on your PC. (As of July 2010, JungleFlasher is the newest and most reliable application for BIN files. Older programs used MS-DOS to edit BIN files, but these programs were prone to crashing and were unstable. JungleFlasher is the only program capable of flashing an Xbox 360 from within Windows.)

    • 5

Install JungleFlasher and open the program. Select the Xbox 360 Liteon DVD drive from the drop-down menu and click "Edit BIN." The program will copy the Xbox 360's Liteon DVD drive BIN file for editing on your PC.

    • 6
Disconnect the SATA cable from the console when done.

Click "Flash BIN" and JungleFlasher will send an edited BIN file to the Xbox 360's Liteon DVD drive. Click "OK" after flashing is complete and shut down your computer.

Disconnect the SATA cable from the PC to the Liteon drive and reconnect all internal Xbox 360 components and cables. Replace the metal cover, Torx screws and plastic casing on the Xbox 360 before turning the console on again.
