How to Hook Up an Xbox to a PC Monitor

The Microsoft Xbox gaming system connects to a TV with component video cables and color-coded plugs. Hooking up the console to a PC monitor requires an adapter to connect the three video plugs on one side, with a Video Graphics Array (VGA) cable attached to a port on the other end of the adapter. You can then connect the VGA cable to a PC monitor for viewing game play. The adapter and cables are available at electronics and computer stores.

Instructions

    • 1

Connect the single plug on one end of the Xbox AV cable (which comes with the game console) to the port on the back of the console.

    • 2

Insert the red, green and blue plugs on the other end of the Xbox cable into the female connectors on the RGB to VGA cable. Match the plug colors to the color stripes on the female connectors.

    • 3

Line up the VGA plug with the video port on the back of the monitor so that the wider edge of the plug faces upward like the port. Push the plug straight onto the port and secure the connection by twisting the two bolts on the plug clockwise.
