How to Attach an Xbox to a PC Through a USB Ethernet Cable

If you want to connect your Xbox 360 to the Internet, using the ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) method is one of your options. This is done by connecting your Xbox 360 to your Internet-connected computer via Ethernet cable. If your computer does not have a free Ethernet port, this connection is still possible. Simply purchase a USB-to-Ethernet adapter cable, install the drivers for it, and change a few simple settings in your computer.

Things You'll Need

  • USB-to-Ethernet adapter cable (see resource)
  • Ethernet cable
  • Computer running Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7

Instructions

    • 1

Plug your USB-to-Ethernet adapter into a free USB port on your computer. The drivers for the adapter should be installed automatically. If not, insert the included drivers disc and follow the onscreen prompts to install it.

    • 2

Connect your Ethernet cable to your USB-to-Ethernet adapter cable, and then to your Xbox's Ethernet port.

    • 3

Open the Start menu on your computer, and then click "Run." Type "ncpa.cpl" into the search box and click "OK" to open the Network Connections window. Right-click on your connection that provides Internet for your computer, and then select "Properties." Finally, open the "Sharing" tab and check the check box for "Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet connection." Your Xbox will now be able to access the Internet through your computer.
