How to Clean an Xbox DVD Lens

The Xbox, developed and distributed by Microsoft Corp., is a sixth-generation video game console. The console not only plays video games, but it also can play DVDs. Sometimes, however, the DVD lens can get dirty or dusty because of excessive use and exposure to household dust. However, it is easy to clean an Xbox DVD lens and get back to enjoying the console.

Instructions

    • 1

Power on the Xbox and open the DVD drive.

    • 2

Turn off or unplug the console. When the console is completely powered down, blow compressed air on the DVD tray and inside the DVD compartment. This will remove much of the dust and particles inside the DVD tray and help remove obstructions on the lens.

    • 3

      Turn on your TV.

    • 4

Power your system back on and place the cleaning disc into the disc tray and close the DVD tray. The cleaning disc has a small brush on one side that helps gently clean the lens when the DVD is played. Once inserted, the DVD cleaner should display a prompt on the TV asking you to press "Play" to start the cleaning process. Press "Play" and let the cleaner go through the cycle.

    • 5

Open the DVD tray and take out the DVD cleaner.

    • 6

Insert a DVD into the Xbox and test the system. If the DVD still skips, repeat above process. If the problem persists, the lens may be scratched, and you should contact Microsoft Xbox customer support.
