How to Clear the Memory Cache on an Xbox 360

The Xbox 360 video game system stores temporary files, such as game updates and avatar pictures, in a system cache folder. It is possible to delete this cache through the Xbox "Dashboard." Deleting the system cache can allow you to play older versions of games when a game update has had a negative effect on your enjoyment of a game. It is also useful as a troubleshooting tool when attempting to resolve Xbox 360 software issues.

Instructions

    • 1

Using your game controller, press the following buttons while at the "Dashboard": X, X, left bumper, right bumper, X, X.

    • 2

Select "Yes" on the system maintenance pop-up menu.

    • 3

Leave your Xbox 360 powered on while the system clears your memory cache. Once you receive notification that the cache has been cleared, you may turn off your Xbox 360.
