How to Disassemble the Xbox 360 Rechargeable Battery Pack

Rechargeable battery packs have only recently become a standard in the video game industry. Since the 1980s, the video game world has seen many improvements to the controller in an attempt to increase comfort, functionality, and usability. In 2005, Microsoft released the Xbox 360 and set a new standard by including wireless controllers with rechargeable battery packs. However, with repeated use, these battery packs lose their charge. Rather than purchase an entirely new battery pack, there is a way to replace the batteries instead.

Things You'll Need

  • Small flathead screw driver
  • Super glue
  • 2 rechargeable NiMH AA rechargeable batteries
  • Electrical tape

Instructions

  1. Open the Battery Housing

    • 1

Slide the flathead screw driver between the two halves of the battery pack.

    • 2

Apply light pressure in an upward and downward motion to loosen the bond between the two halves. Do this very gently to avoid cracking the casing.

    • 3

Work your way around the whole battery pack to separate the two halves.

    • 4

      Pull the two halves apart.

    Remove the Batteries

    • 5

Take note of the direction the batteries are facing before you remove them. You need to install the new batteries with the terminals facing the same direction.

    • 6

Peel the wire leads from the ends of the batteries and remove the old batteries.

    • 7

Hold the two new NiMH rechargeable batteries in the same direction as the old ones and wrap a piece of electrical tape around the batteries. The tape will prevent the batteries from becoming dislodged during play.

    • 8

Insert the new batteries into the pack in the same direction as the old ones.

    • 9

Attach the wire leads and place a small piece of electrical tape over the ends to hold them in place if needed.

    Close the Pack

    • 10

Spread a small amount of super glue around the edges of the battery pack and press the two halves back together.

    • 11

Allow several minutes for the glue to fully dry before handling.

    • 12

Insert the battery pack back into the Xbox 360 controller, connect it to a charging station and allow for at least six hours to fully charge.
