How to Tell What Size Xbox Hard Drive You Have

Microsoft sells three different storage units for the Xbox 360, allowing gamers to have varying size options to fit their needs. The largest memory device is the hard drive, which attaches to a bay positioned on the outside of the console. These hard drives vary in size, ranging from the original 20 GB model to the largest 250 GB version included in the remodeled Xbox 360 design. Many of the hard drives appear to be approximately the same size, so it may be difficult to differentiate between models. Fortunately, Microsoft allows users to view hard drive size in the Xbox system&'s dashboard.

Instructions

    • 1

Press the gray "Guide" button on your Xbox 360 controller. A menu will appear in the middle of the screen.

    • 2

Scroll to the far right "System" blade, then open "System Settings."

    • 3

Choose "Memory." You&'ll then be prompted to make a storage device selection.

    • 4

Highlight and select your hard drive. This opens a hard drive stored data summary list.

    • 5

View the hard drive&'s available memory in the upper-right corner of the screen. This does not indicate total hard drive size, only how much memory is available. Notice that there&'s a list of saved data below the available memory number.

    • 6

View the saved data list below the hard drive&'s available memory number. Add up the memory of each of the nine folders, viewable to the right of each folder, and add that number to the available memory. The sum gives you your hard drive&'s size.
