How to Extract the Firmware From the BenQ DVD Drive on the Xbox

Xbox 360 consoles are distributed by Microsoft and are manufactured with several brands of DVD drives inside (Hitachi, Samsung, and BenQ). All Xbox 360 DVD drives can have their firmware extracted and edited via a SATA cable connection to a PC. Using the freeware application JungleFlasher, you will extract the firmware from the Xbox 360 BenQ drive in 30 minutes.

  • SATA cable
  • Torx screwdriver (size 7)

Instructions

      Your Torx screwdriver will open the console&'s case so you can extract the firmware.

      Open the Xbox 360&'s case by unscrewing the Torx screws and sliding off the plastic cover. Plug in your SATA cable from the BenQ DVD drive to your PC&'s motherboard. This data connection will allow you to extract the firmware from the BenQ drive in the Xbox 360.

      Turn on your computer and run your web browser. Open the JungleFlasher download page (see link in References), download the application, then install it to your PC. Restart your computer completely and log back in to your user account.

      Disconnect the SATA cable from your PC and replace all Xbox internal components before turning on the 360.

      Open JungleFlasher and select the console&'s BenQ DVD drive from its menu. Select "Read Firmware" and click "OK." JungleFlasher will read the BenQ&'s original firmware and save it to a BIN file on your PC, where you can access or edit it at any time. Power off your PC and disconnect the SATA cable. Replace any internal cables and screws in your Xbox 360 and slide the case back on before powering on the console again.
