How to Copy Movies & Playback on a XBox

Video game consoles are becoming much more than machines dedicated to gaming. These machines are starting to become the hub of the entertainment center, with movie, music and photo streaming and playback, movie and TV show rentals and social networking built-in. The Xbox 360 has the ability to playback several video formats. Copying your DVD movies for playback on the Xbox 360 simply requires conversion software.

Instructions

    • 1

Download and install a DVD conversion application to extract and copy your movie to your hard drive. The Xbox can handle a few different video formats (MP4, Xvid, DivX), but for maximum portability you are going to want to convert the DVD to an MP4. The MP4 format is used in most portable devices (iPods, PSPs, Zunes and others).

    • 2

Insert the DVD into your computer’s DVD drive and launch the conversion software. Follow the application’s instructions for converting the file to an MP4. Save the digital video file to your desktop.

    • 3

Insert the USB flash drive into your computer. Navigate to the contents of the drive via Windows Explorer and create a new folder called Videos. Create the new folder by selecting File > New Folder.

    • 4

Drag and drop the MP4 video file from your desktop to the Videos folder on the drive. Remove the drive once the file copies and insert it into the Xbox 360’s USB port.

    • 5

Open the Video tab within the Xbox dashboard. Select the USB flash drive and open the Videos folder. Select the movie and press X to begin playback.
