How to Link Xbox to a PC

It's possible to connect your computer and your Xbox. This allows you to create back copies of your save games and play media on your computer that would otherwise be restricted to your console. The two main types of connections between a PC and Xbox are through the network or via a direct connection using an Ethernet cable. Both connection types result in access to the same information, which leaves it up to you to choose between these two approaches.

Instructions

  1. Via a Router

    • 1

Ensure that your router is connected to the household or office modem. It should be connected via the WAN port.

    • 2

Insert an Ethernet cable into your computer's Ethernet jack and then run it to the router. Connect the other end to one of the router's Ethernet jacks.

    • 3

Connect your Xbox to the router using another Ethernet cable. Your computer and Xbox are now connected to each other via the household or office network.

    Direct Connection

    • 4

Connect the Ethernet cable to your PC's Ethernet jack.

    • 5

Run the cable to your Xbox.

    • 6

Insert the other end of the Ethernet cable into your Xbox's Ethernet jack. This creates a direct connection between your Xbox and PC so that you don't need a router. In the process, though, you block your PC's Ethernet jack so that it cannot connect to the modem directly. If you have a second Ethernet jack or a wireless card, you can still connect to the modem.
