How to Fix a ROD on Xbox 360

Heat generated by an Xbox 360 during use can cause the heat shield placed over the graphics chip to come loose. This causes the Xbox 360’s operating system to respond by shutting down and displaying a red LED. Fixing the ROD, or Ring of Death, as it is more often called, can be done by reseating the heat shield to the graphics chip. You do not need to open the Xbox 360 in order to fix the ROD, although the excessive heat that is generated during the fix has the potential of shortening the lifespan of the interior electronics. The fix does not void the Microsoft warranty.
