How to Install a DVD Drive on an Xbox 360

The Microsoft Xbox 360, much like many popular home-gaming consoles, does not have the ability to play HD-DVD movies. In fact, the ability to play these movies can only be attained through the use of an HD-DVD drive, which is sold separately. If you find yourself in possession of an HD-DVD drive and wish to connect it to your Xbox 360, the process is a simple one.

  Turn your Xbox on. Insert the HD-DVD drive installation disk into the disk drive on your 360. After inserting the disk, the installation program should begin automatically.

  Place your HD-DVD drive near your Xbox 360. You can place it horizontally or vertically, but it is preferred that you place the player horizontally because of the rubber feet located on the horizontal base.

  Connect the HD-DVD drive to one of the available USB ports on your Xbox 360 console.

  Connect the HD-DVD drive's power cable to an available wall socket. Turn your HD-DVD drive on. Insert a HD-DVD disk into the drive. The Xbox 360 should detect the disk automatically and begin playing it.
